Mayor Anthony Suarez criticized council Republicans on Monday for an attempt to terminate Borough Administrator Roberta Stern's $110,000-a-year contract.

Suarez said the talk of saving money is window dressing for what is, at its core, a political move. He said Republicans are looking to install one of their appointees in the slot.

Suarez also criticized Todd for introducing the resolution at the last minute and said it appears that Stern did not get a Rice notice - a state requirement whenever the council is discussing an employee's performance or contract.

Council President Lonzisero said he was uncomfortable with the wording of the resolution and by its last-minute appearance on the agenda.

You can't help but see through Councilmen Todd and Vincentz's real agenda for the Borough of Ridgefield. If these men truly wanted to save money, why did they hire a former Republican Mayor and political operative to a self-created position; why do they hire their campaign workers for positions in town hall when they are unnecessary; why have they wasted so much money on foolish undertakings, like suing their own zoning board?

It seems that the real victim here is not just the Borough Administrator, but the residents of the Borough of Ridgefield.

Political Sign Case Thrown Out

RIDGEFIELD - A state Superior Court judge has dismissed the case against a Board of Education member who was ticketed in October for having a large political sign on his lawn.

Judge Peter Doyne found on Friday that the four summonses issued to Giovanni Calabrese for the sign promoting local Democratic candidates were not worthy of prosecution, court officials said.

Calabrese contended that Republican Council Members prodded code officers and local and county police to pursue the issue. "I was getting politically bullied by the Republicans," he said.

Council President Nicholas Lonzisero, a Republican, declined comment.
